Wrestler Rey Mysterio is known for his “Booyaka” catchphrase, colorful lucha libre masks, and “619” finishing move on WWE. Off the ring, he is Óscar Gutiérrez – a husband, father, and now a philanthropist. Although still a winning wrestler in WWE’s Raw series, Gutiérrez has recently launched his global #ReysFight4Autism fundraiser.
The first phase of the campaign will run until June 30th, accepting donations through PayPal on the website. The proceeds of the campaign will go to organizations that help and support children with autism across the world. The organizations will be selected based on how efficiently they use their resources, how many children are benefited by their activities, and how well their values match with those of Rey Mysterio.
To encourage donations, the wrestler is offering personalized photographs addressed to every person who donates to the cause. In addition, custom merchandise, special edition masks, and a bespoke title belt can be won instantly by donors. All donors are entered into a raffle for the mega prize – a “Booyaka Bundle” which includes a trip for two people to a WWE match as Rey Mysterio’s special guests. The winners will be announced on the wrestler’s social media on June 30th.
The wrestler has met many children with autism and their families during his career. These meetings and conversations have motivated Gutiérrez to create the project; the fundraiser’s website states, “He has been deeply moved by the stories of the challenges that autism presents but heartened by the joy that wrestling brings them.”
Gutiérrez’s Instagram is full of promotional videos for the fundraiser. He is excited to help support children with autism. To join Rey Mysterio’s Fight 4 Autism, visit https://www.winwithrey.com.
