Parenting is one of the best jobs a person can experience, but it is also one of the most difficult. Being an autism parent comes with its own challenges, but receiving valuable advice helps in overcoming many obstacles. We reached out to our autism community through Instagram to ask them what the best advice they’ve ever received regarding autism was. Here’s what they had to say…

1. “Keep calm and carry on!“

2. “Your child is still the same person he/she was before the diagnosis. The diagnosis just gives it a name – it does not change who your child is and how much you love him/her.”

3. “Trust what your child is telling you however they’re able to communicate it.”

4. “Trust your instinct and ask for help when you need it.”

5. “It’s not going to be easy, but it’s not impossible. & Special angels are sent for the strong minded.”

6. “To always be patient and immune to judgmental people.”

7. “That all will be okay.”

8. “Chose your battles wisely – not everything is worth the argument.”

9. “Autism is not a choice, acceptance is!”

10. “Just love them for who they are and love them always.”

Advice and support can be crucial for any new parent. The autism community has become infamous for the value of it’s parent-to-parent advice. We always recommend it’s one of the best ways to learn, and encourage parents time after time to attend support groups and parent workshops. To all the new parents out there, the American Autism Association (AAA) is always there to help by providing support, advice, and answers through our Help Hotline at 877-654-4483 or via email at [email protected]
