With Halloween right around the corner, here are some fun sensory friendly Halloween crafts to make with your child on the spectrum.

It is important to have your child participate in sensory friendly crafts. It can be extremely beneficial for children with autism. The benefits include: increased attention, participation in active play, behavior regulation, increased socialization and positive outcomes in sensorimotor skills and motor planning.

These festive and easy activities will provide fun for your entire family!

Five Little Pumpkins Sensory Bin:

 Supplies needed:

  • Bin
  • Wooden blocks
  • Black beans
  • Orange poms
  • Green pipe cleaners
  • Tongs or a scoop (optional)


  1. Place hard black beans in a bin.
  2. Place little pumpkin containers on the “fence”. The fence can be wooden blocks.
  3. The pumpkin patch can be made in the remaining section of the bin using orange poms and green sparkly pipe cleaners.
  4. Fold the ends of the pipe cleaners down so the sharp ends aren’t exposed and curl them around your finger. Place them around the bin as vines and put the poms around them.
  5. Add some tongs and a scoop and your little one is all ready to dig in.

For added fun, your child can practice moving the pumpkin poms into the bigger pumpkin containers.



Halloween Sensory Slime

Supplies needed:

  • Clear glue, glitter glue or white glue (Elmer’s washable works best but dollar store is ok too!)
  • Liquid Starch
  • Water
  • Measuring Cup
  • 2 bowls and a spoon
  • Food coloring, confetti, glitter (optional)


  1. In one bowl mix 1/2 cup water and 1/2 cup of glue {really mix to combine completely}.
  2. Now’s the time to add color, glitter, or confetti!
  3. In another bowl measure out 1/2 cup of liquid starch.
  4. Slowly mix the glue/water mixture into the starch with a spoon, make sure to get all glue out of bowl.
  5. Switch to mixing with hands for a few minutes until you feel it come together.
  6. Put in a clean, dry container or on a plate.

For extra Halloween fun, add food coloring, Halloween themed confetti, or monster googly eyes!

Pumpkin Moon Sand

 Supplies needed:

  • 4 cups of play sand (can be found at home depot)
  • 2 cups of corn starch
  • 1-3 cups of water
  • Pumpkin pie spice
  • Orange food coloring, liquid watercolors, or powdered paint


  1. In a sensory bin or container combine all ingredients and mix well.
  2. Add food coloring or powdered paint to mix.
  3. Start with one cup of water and add more until you have reached the desired consistency.
