Jessica Brown became the Executive Director of All 4 Autism, a resource center for individuals with autism in South Carolina. All 4 Autism was founded in 2005. Brown, a mother of a child with autism in 2016 as part of the first hired staff. Brown joined the center with the hopes of creating a space where mothers of children with autism could go to get resources and support. With Brown’s previous experience working in non-profit organization she helping Pacing 4 Pieces raise money for the resource center.
Pacing 4 Pieces is a fundraising effort that is held each year in order to support Pieces for Autism. The event took place Saturday March 9, 2019 in Florence, South Carolina.
Brown states to SCNow that she “wants All 4 Autism to reiterate that no one is alone in their journey. She believes that everyone should come together to connect the pieces.” She explains to SCNow, because of her fifteen year old son who was diagnosed at the age of three. At the time of his diagnosis, there were no resources in their local area. Brown says that she is happy with the awareness that is being spread as well as the creation of more inclusive spaces such as quiet rooms in schools. Brown explains to SCNow that she is dedicated to creating an inclusive environment in everything she does and everywhere she works.
The fundraiser, Pacing for Pieces was held on Saturday March 9 and included a kids zone with inflatables and games as well as a sensory tent which will be a quiet, safe, and comfortable space away from the crowd and noise of the festival.
