Sponsorship
Improving the State of Autism 2012 One Sponsorship at a Time
At the American Autism Association, we know what a difference access to quality autism programs can make in child or teenager’s life. But we also know that autism funding can be hard to come by. It’s high time that changed.
With that in mind, we are honored to offer a sponsorship program, which enables low-income youth to attend autistic schools, camps, and workshops that will change their lives for the better.
Currently we work with two of the area’s best providers of therapy for autism:
- Marks JCH of Bensonhurst Special Needs Camp: This is an outstanding job readiness program for teenagers ages 14–18 who have various types of autism or other special needs. We have already sponsored two low-income teenagers to participate in the program, which includes educational role playing activities, social skill building exercises, and computer training sessions. Participants also learn vital skills such as how to write a résumé.
- Special Needs Activities for Kids (SNACK): While sharing social stories for autistic children is important for children with autism, there’s nothing like the opportunity for children with autism to create those kinds of stories themselves. This diverse autism program includes games, music, movement/yoga, art, and drama to help your child learn to better communicate with others and express him or herself.
How are we able to offer such powerful opportunities? It’s all thanks to generous autism funding contributions from our donors, who make one-on-one sponsorships possible. Find out more about donating here.
Calling New Autism Programs to Participate in Our Sponsorship Program
As you know, there is no one foolproof therapy for autism. The only way we can begin to defeat autism now is to provide our community’s youth with the best, most comprehensive care available. For that reason, the American Autism Association is always seeking new organizations to participate in our sponsorship program.
That includes, but is not limited to:
- Schools for autism
- Autism support groups
- Autism programs in music therapy, swimming, gymnastics, etc.
- Enriching workshops that specialize in working with autistic children or teens
If your organization is interested in participating in our sponsorship program, we want to hear from you. Please contact Karina Burman, Special Needs Coordinator, at 718-331-6800 ext. 175 or via e-mail.
